Ethical Intelligence is Neil’s term for the capacity to ethically self-regulate our thinking and behaviour—to make wise choices when meeting the multidimensional challenges of a complex world.

The inner competence behind ethical action

Technical competencies such as literacy and numeracy can be measured directly. Ethical Intelligence is demonstrated in how people behave: their authenticity, judgement, relationships, problem-solving and ability to live by values such as respect, integrity, compassion and trust.

Self-leadership

Observing our inner world and choosing responses aligned with our values.

Relationships

Building trust through empathy, integrity, active listening and accountability.

Wellbeing & resilience

Developing the reflective awareness needed to navigate difficulty without losing our ethical compass.

Leadership for contemporary life

Values-based communities deliberately nurture Ethical Intelligence so that future leaders—at every level of society—can model ethical leadership. This connects the inner curriculum with the social challenges of our time.

The inner curriculum

Neil connects Ethical Intelligence with the insights of Internal Family Systems and the development of self-leadership in schools. This work asks people to notice their inner world, relate to it with compassion and choose actions aligned with their values.
